Starts September 30, 2022!

Advanced Teaching Series Part 1 (50 Hours)

This 50-hour Advanced Teaching Series is designed to offer teachers at the 200 Hour level or beyond a powerful coaching experience and effective professional development.

This program will help refine and expand your teaching, develop intuitive knowledge and skills, and increase your confidence and ability as a teacher. You will have the opportunity to practice teach with your peers and receive open and honest feedback and direction. It will also help you stay both accountable and creative as you work towards your personal and professional growth and development while creating a stronger foundation!

Requirements:

Graduate of Halifax Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training or other approved 200 Hour Teacher Training Certification.

Program Intentions:

1. Assist in the transition from YTT to teaching in a studio.
2. Create your WHY – getting clarity around why you teach in order to help facilitate how you teach.
3. Review techniques: Alignment and biomechanics of various poses.
4. Discuss and receive advice for various class scenarios – in-class injuries, class behaviour, and communication, teacher/student relationships.
5. Develop effective teaching techniques and communication, etc.
6. Create and develop your unique voice, and more!

Guidelines of the Program:

Group Setting In-Studio Sessions (43 hours + 2 hours individual coaching = 45 hours)

a) Personal goal setting and creating your ‘WHY’ – People lose their way when they forget their why! Get clarity on why you teach (or want to teach), create your vision, set goals, and develop actionable steps.
b) The Art & Science of sequencing – The art of sequencing a class uses your skill and intuition, while the science provides guidelines on linking postures together in a comprehensive manner. Discussion and practicum will include various iterations of flow (vinyasa). As a teacher, combining the art and science of sequencing will increase your confidence and take your teaching to the next level.
c) The when and why to verbal assist – Develop global vision, prioritization, and a trauma-informed approach to assisting students. Deepen your observational skills to ensure your verbal assists are supportive, appropriate, feel good, and enhance your students’ experience on the mat.
d) Develop your voice – Learn about language and effective ways to communicate to students at all levels of asana practice. Learn how to use your words to inspire your students and connect with them in a meaningful way.
e) How to teach, cue and sequence more advanced poses- break the poses down, understand the targeted area and energetics to mindfully incorporate them into a flow sequence.

You will have ample opportunity to practice teach and incorporate the knowledge and skills you learn throughout the program during the weekend intensives. You will receive supportive and comprehensive feedback.

The Facilitators:

Angela Day and Kari Morgan

The Advanced Teaching Series: Part One is a 50-hr yoga teacher training and an approved learning module of the Halifax Yoga 300-hr YTT program. This training is co-facilitated by Angela Day and Kari Morgan. They have designed this program to be accessible to everybody for a myriad style of teaching. The intention is to dive deeper into the skills and strategies which will help to evolve your teaching. They have created a space for you to discover your own teaching style through the study of energetics and structure, to support the craft of teaching yoga.

These yoga teachers have their own specific style and expertise. Angela leads yoga classes and workshops with intentional energetic awareness. She teaches with fluid sequencing based on energetics, the outside elements, and the people in the room. Kari has very specific yin and restorative training. She is able to see the bodies in the room and teach alignment with a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy. Both lead teaching and feedback with compassion, essential language, and honesty.

Angela Day

Angela is a 200 hr E-RYT with 12 years of experience teaching (7 with Halifax Yoga) and almost 20 years practicing. Angela is deeply curious and loves to explore the boundaries of our physical bodies through the practice of yoga. It is this curiosity that drives her to continue to develop her skills with the support of her fellow teachers at Halifax Yoga and incredible mentors like Philip Urso (Founder of Live Love Teach) and Bryan Kest (Founder of Power Yoga). Both on and off the mat, Angela strives to foster an environment that supports well-being.

Angela teaches yoga because she loves it! Her teaching style is creative, playful, thoughtful, and restorative. She teaches a variety of styles, including Hot Power and Yin Yang. Her classes offer ample opportunity to be challenged while safely exploring strength and mobility. Angela has co-facilitated a 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training and other trainings. She believes that professional growth occurs within a nurturing, supportive and diverse community. It is her intention to support each of her students along their yoga teaching journey.

Kari Morgan

Kari fell in love with yoga as a recovery tool after her first knee surgery almost 10 years ago. A self-identified anatomy geek and an avid learner, she entered the first 200-hour YTT at Halifax Yoga and hit the ground running as a Vinyasa teacher.

Her love for Yin yoga came a little later, as a balancing point for an active life and busy mind. Kari believes that yoga can be an amazing tool for every BODY so she helps students to connect how each pose can be supported by their unique anatomy through understanding how it should feel in their body (as opposed to how it should look).

Kari has continued her learning after her 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training, having taken training with a number of vinyasa teachers and more than 100 hours of Yin training with Bernie Clark and Biff Mithoefer, as well as Upper Body Yin as a new area to explore. She recently completed her 500 hour Yoga certification.  In her classes, you will find playful sequencing and thoughtful cues that will aid you in getting into your body and exploring its potential.
