Katie Smith
Katie started practicing yoga as a university student. She was initially drawn to it as a method for balancing mind, body, and spirit amongst the chaos of university life. After her first yoga class, she was immediately enamoured – there was nothing else that compared to the state of complete contentment and ease experienced while on the mat. After learning various lineages at studios throughout Nova Scotia, Katie felt called to deepen her practice and develop the knowledge required to share the gift of yoga with others. It was then that Katie enrolled in yoga teacher training, completing it over a nine-month period while pregnant with her second son throughout. This was a very special chapter that epitomized all eight limbs of yoga, and kickstarted her non-stop learning of all things yoga, parenting, and life in general.
In Katie’s classes you can expect a warm and safe environment, with sequences that offer various accommodations so that you can honour your growing edge. She helps students cultivate a yoga practice that works for them and their unique circumstances. Her classes are designed to both challenge the mind and body and engage in restorative practices, allowing you to leave feeling balanced and mindful – channeling resiliency both on and off the mat.
While not practicing yoga, you can find Katie working as a passionate public servant, spending time with her family, playing sports, walking her energetic labrador retriever, cooking, EATING, reading, or doing pretty much any activity you can think of near the water or beach!
