I had given yoga a few tries throughout my life, but it wasn’t until completing the Halifax Yoga 25 hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training in June of 2024 that a deep interest for yoga was ignited in me. As a doula, childbirth and lactation educator, prenatal yoga felt like a perfect extension of my skills. In taking the prenatal yoga teacher training, I gained a deeper appreciation for the practice, and went on to complete the 200 hour YTT, graduating April 2025. Existing in a fat body, I never felt like a yoga studio was meant for me. During prenatal YTT modifications were explained, props we encouraged, and all of this was lovingly expressed, without any judgement. Seeing these accommodations offered to meet each person where they were was the first time I felt welcome to show up exactly as I am and do what feels good in my body. I hope to show participants that it’s okay to do just what you can when you attend one of my classes. I wish for my classes to feel accessible to all bodies and abilities. It is important to me to find the joy and humour in life’s hard moments, whether that be yet another downward-facing dog or the labour process. I teach with compassion and humour. I want to encourage participants not to take yoga, and life in general, too seriously.
