December: Matthew Docherty
I started practicing yoga in 2008 and it was after I took my first Baptiste class that I knew I had found the style of yoga that was for me. I love the way it pushes me to my edge both mentally and physically. Over the years I’ve discovered that it’s not the practice that changes but rather the way I approach from the mat that does. I was inspired to become a yoga instructor and I’ve been teaching at Halifax Yoga since 2011.
When I am on my mat it feels like time stops and the only thing that matters is the present moment as I make a connection with my breath and body to ground myself in the pose. After practicing I feel physically charged and mentally refreshed; I hope my students feel the same.
As I teacher I want my students to take their practice seriously but to be easy on themselves as they grow. My classes are suitable for all levels of practitioners because I help create space to explore each pose with more freedom.
I also took the RealRyder Indoor Cycling Training in May 2013 and offer a few spyin classes (30mins spin, 30mins yin yoga) at the studio. A great combination for the cardio junkie and the person looking for a connection to their body.
I love teaching yoga and I welcome you to come flow with me!
Namaste,
Matt Docherty
