September: Laura Bowdridge

I knew in my heart over the last 3 years I wanted to teach yoga. Working in the healthcare field I’ve always loved the feeling of making a difference in the well being of others. My love for sports and fitness and my developing yoga practice, this seemed like the perfect fit, but didn’t seem achievable, possible or realistic.

How could I take a teacher training program in the midst of my “busy life”? When there’s a will; there’s a way. I decided to drop all excuses and for the first time in my life that what I wanted was most important, and it was at a time when it was actually exactly what I needed.

I completed the YTT program at HY this past May at the same time being a part of the Energy Exchange program, I was involved and plugged in at the studio at a time in my life when it was vital for me to be surrounded by positive people and serve with purpose. I did an internship at HY and took RealRyder Indoor Cycling training in the midst of it all, gaining so much knowledge and receiving feedback from teachers that helped me pin point areas in my teaching that needed work were also the areas in my life that I was working on too.

I now teach a post-natal Mom and Baby class on Monday mornings; of which 2 short years ago my son Easton and I were students in Sherry’s class and if she had of told me then that I would be the one teaching that class now, I probably would of laughed at her.. But I really could not be happier be doing so, My hope is to inspire other new moms and show them what’s possible on and off the mat. You just never know!

I also teach a Restorative class Wednesday mornings at 9:30. I like to call it hitting the “midweek reset button” I love having the opportunity to hold space for people to take exactly what they need to find comfort and relaxation. Sometimes, incorporating hands on assists to deepen the receiving postures of restorative.
And you never know were you may see me pop into sub a Spin or Hot Power class for some sweaty fun!!

I am continuing my work as a teacher through the Halifax Yoga 300 Hour Advanced Teacher Training Program and am genuinely excited to see what is in store for me as a teacher and to see the community at Halifax Yoga grow as a whole!

Always remember: “you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think!”

See you on your mat!

Namaste,
Laura B.
